“The Trust grant brought the RSL sub-branch dreams to reality”, said Project Manager, David Wagstaff, from Shoalhaven City Council. The Culburra Beach-Orient Point RSL sub-branch have for many years been seeking a memorial. The RSL, their families and the community now have  lasting memorial

to serve as a centre for future ceremonies and a place to remember those who have served and are serving today. The memorial was dedicated just prior to ANZAC Day 2011 and the RSL had the biggest attendance ever.

Plans for the memorial started two years ago when former Culburra Beach-Orient Point RSL sub-branch secretary, John Roden, mentioned that they were the only sub-branch in the Shoalhaven which did not have a memorial. Shoalhaven City Council provided the land and documented a design.

Shoalhaven City Council committed to 50% of the cost and provided a grant of $25,000 and in November 2010 the Veolia Mulwaree Trust provided $20,537. Work commenced promptly and the memorial was completed in time for ANZAC Day 2011.

The beautiful memorial is located in front of the Culburra Beach Community Centre. Insignia representing the navy, army and air force are prominent on the memorial, along with the powerful words, “Lest We Forget”.
