2014 Veolia Mulwaree Trust/TAFE scholarship recipients

Four students from TAFE Illawarra accepted scholarship awards of $1500 from the Veolia Mulwaree Trust last Thursday in recognition of their commitment to education and the broader community. The ceremony was held at Goulburn campus.

Veolia Mulwaree Trustee’s Geoff Kettle, Paul Stephenson and John Reynolds attended the event to present the awards.

The scholarships went to TAFE Moss Vale Indigenous Land Management students Nicholas Lee from Mittagong and Wendy Lotter from Willow Vale, Goulburn Diploma of Children’s Services student Gemma Hammond from Binda and Fairy Meadow resident, Jordan Rankin (absent) who is studying a Diploma of Events at the Wollongong campus.

The scholarship funds will help each student work towards their career dreams.  Winners were awarded on the basis of a written application which addressed their commitment to study, work experience, volunteer work and financial need.

Applicants must be from local government areas the Veolia Mulwaree Trust services, including the Goulburn Mulwaree Council, Palerang Council, Shoalhaven City Council, Oberon Council, Wingecarribee Shire Council, Upper Lachlan shire Council and Wollondilly Shire Council.

“The Veolia Mulwaree Trust Fund provides significant financial assistance to students who have the drive, enthusiasm, and determination to contribute to their communities and create a strong future for themselves through achieving a higher level vocational qualification,” TAFE Illawarra District Operations Manager (Highlands) David Guthrey said.

Mr Guthrey said Illawarra TAFE valued highly the partnership with Veolia Mulwaree Trust and he strongly encourages students to apply when the scholarships open next year. Information regarding scholarships is available on the Institute’s website.

Trust Chairman Paul Stephenson OAM said the Trust has raised more than $6 million towards the scholarship program and other local initiatives since beginning in 2005 and is pleased to support TAFE students with their studies through the scholarship partnership.
