Each participant receives a booklet on Surf and Beach Safety and a Ten Tip Safety Brochure.

The program teaches students how to recognise a RIP in the surf zone and what to do if they become caught in one, (stay calm, float, don’t panic and raise an arm to attract attention).  The talks centre on identifying wave forms, dangerous marine creatures and how to treat sting injuries and each booklet contains a resuscitation chart for students to familiarise themselves with.

The Veolia Mulwaree Trust was also proud to support South Coast’s newly formed Bawley Point Kioloa Community Nippers Club by supplying start-up equipment, including junior training boards for the ‘Nippers’ to utilise in their surf training.

South Coast Surf Lifesaving also utilised Trust funds to supply Rescue Boat and Jet Ski crew members with the latest personal flotation devices (PFD) lifejackets for the 2014/15 season. boat crew pfd

South Coast Surf Lifesaving president, Steve Jones said “changes to the Surf Lifesaving Australia policy on rescue water craft now require all crews to wear a PFD on patrol operations and rescue callouts. The Veolia Mulwaree Trust funds have assisted us to purchase 40 PFD’s for our local clubs.”

Trust chairman, Mr Paul Stephenson presented the PFD’s at a beach event held on Sunday 2 November. Mr Stephenson said, “The Mulwaree Trust donation to surf lifesaving is in recognition of the good work of the surf lifesavers who provide a vital beach patrol and rescue service to the community and who themselves need to be safe when conducting water patrols and rescues.”

The Veolia Mulwaree Trust is proud to support the valuable services provided by the South Coast Surf Lifesaving Branch.
